We are appealing for inforamation following a firearms discharge on Harrops Croft, Netherton, at about 1pm yesterday afternoon (Friday 5 January).
We initially received an unconfirmed report of a discharge and no-one had come forward with injuries. Officers were able to trace the victim and have spoken to the 26year-old man, who suffered a gunshot injury to his leg. He has been discharged from hospital and is refusing to co-operate with the police investigation.
Crime scene investigations have been carried out in the area and work is ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to this incident. House-to-house inquiries have taken place and officers are also examining CCTV footage from the area.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Ball, said: "An investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is ongoing and I would like appeal to anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area of Harrops Croft just at around 1pm to contact us. Information they have could be vital. The victim is refusing to co-operate with the investigation, but we want to ensure that those involved are taken off the streets."
“Gun crime has no place on our streets and we will do everything within our power to find those responsible and bring them to justice.
“We relentlessly pursue those suspected as being involved in gun crime and we need the public to be our eyes and ears and tell us what they know so that we can take positive action.
“Again I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has doorbell footage, or any information which could help us with our inquiries to come forward. I would also like to appeal to any motorists who were in the area, who may have captured the incident on dashcam footage to get in touch.”
