We are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic incident in St Helens this morning, Wednesday 24 July.
At around 10.05am, we received a report of an incident involving a white Renault box van which had mounted the grass central reservation of St Helens Linkway. The vehicle was travelling out of St Helens and came to stop opposite Sherdley Road.
At this stage it is believed the male driver of the van suffered a medical episode.
Emergency services attended the scene and road closures have now been lifted.
We are appealing for any witnesses, and motorists that have dashcams fitted to their vehicles, in the area of St Helens Linkway or Scorecross roundabout shortly before 10am this morning. The Renault may have stood out due to the tail lift on the rear and orange livery to the front and sides.
Detective Sergeant Simon Duffy, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of a 64-year-old man who has sadly lost his life this morning.
“We have now launched an investigation into his death and his next of kin have been informed. They are being supported by our specially trained liaison officers.
“We are appealing to motorists who were driving along the Linkway at around that time who saw the vehicle shortly before the incident or witnessed the vehicle coming to a stop to please contact us.
“I would urge you to please check your dashcam footage to see if it may have captured the incident which will assist in the investigation.
“Every piece information is vitally important to our investigation to establish what happened.”
Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam is asked to contact SCIU on (0151) 777 5747, or email [email protected]. Alternatively DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111, quoting reference 24000644155.
