We have arrested a man and seized a suspected stolen e-bike following a robbery in Wirral last night, Tuesday 23 July.
At around 9.50pm, a man in his 20s was on his e-bike outside the Eagle and Crown pub on Ford Road, Upton when he was reportedly approached by a male. Threats were made and the bike was stolen.
Enquiries through the vehicle’s tracker traced the e-bike to Scoresby Road in Leasowe, and a man was detained nearby.
A 24-year-old man of no fixed abode was arrested on suspicion of Robbery and Possession of cannabis. He remains in custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Peter Rexwinkel said: “This would have been a troubling incident for the victim and any witnesses, so we are pleased to have made a swift arrest and recovered the bike. However, our enquiries are ongoing so I’d like to appeal to anyone who has yet to come forward to do so, as any information, images or footage could still be extremely useful to this investigation.
“Additionally, we hope the knowledge that this bike was fitted with a tracker will serve two purposes. Firstly, as a strong deterrent to anyone who would consider attempting to steal such a vehicle. Secondly, as a reminder to owners to ensure that they have a level of security proportionate to the value of their bike.”
