In the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 24 July, a man was arrested.
A 32-year-old man from St Helens was arrested on suspicion of Attempted murder and Possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector John Mullen from our Firearms Investigation Team (FIT) said: “A man is in custody in connection with this incident but I’d like to emphasise that our investigation is very much ongoing. We want to hear from anyone who has yet to come forward, whether you witnessed the incident or captured anything through CCTV, dashcam and doorbell devices.
“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw two men on foot acting suspiciously in the area of Herbert Street and Cecil Street following the shooting, which would have been shortly after 10.30pm. If you live in these streets, please check any devices. Small details can make a big difference, so let us make the assessment as to whether what evidence you hold is significant.
“Extensive enquiries will continue and we are determined to find those responsible. Working together, we can and will dismantle organised criminals who bring fear to our communities.”
