Detectives have arrested a second man in connection with an injury shooting in St Helens earlier this week.
At around 10.30pm on Monday 22 July, it was reported that a man aged in his 40s had been shot on Boxwood Gardens. The victim was treated at hospital for a gunshot injury to his leg and has now been discharged.
Today, Thursday 25 July, Detectives arrested a 28-year-old man from St Helens on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and grievous bodily harm.
This is the second arrest in connection with the shooting. Yesterday, Wednesday 24 July, a 32-year-old man from St Helens was arrested and has been released on police bail.
Detective Inspector John Mullen from our Firearms Investigation Team said: “A second man is now in custody in connection with this incident, but I’d like to emphasise that our investigation is very much ongoing.
"We are particularly keen to speak to any residents in the areas around Junction Lane and Cecil Street who may have CCTV. Please contact us and let us make the assessment as to whether it is helpful. What may seem insignificant to you, might well be the crucial piece of evidence we are looking for.”
