Two arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery after man attacked in Liverpool City Centre

We have arrested two men in Liverpool City Centre on suspicion of attempted robbery after a man was attacked earlier this weekend (Saturday 29 June).

At around 4am an 18-year-old man was approached by a man on Church Street who grabbed him and threatened to take to his wallet. Another man then punched his friend before officers in the area spotted the attack.

Both men ran away from the officers but were chased and stopped on Church Alley.

Two men aged 23 and 37 from Holyhead and Stoke on Trent were arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery. They have since been bailed with conditions.

Detective Inspector Neil Dillon said: “Thankfully no one was seriously injured during this incident and I hope these two arrests reassures visitors to our city centre that we will not tolerate such violent attacks in Liverpool. 

“Everyone should be able go out and feel safe in their own community without the fear of being attacked. 

“While we have made two arrests, enquiries into the robberies remain ongoing and the two men who were arrested are not to enter the city centre. If you were on Church Street at the time of the incident on Saturday morning and saw what happened then please let us know. 

“Similarly, if you were driving in the area and have any dashcam footage please contact us. Any information you hold could be vital to our enquiries.”
