Detectives are appealing for information following a robbery in Netherton today, Sunday 16 June.
At around 2.30pm, officers were called to a report that four or five males assaulted a man and slashed him across the cheek on Granams Croft. His money and mobile phone were also stolen.
The offenders then made off on foot and on bikes.
The victim is his 20s was taken to hospital and is receiving treatment for his injury.
Forensic investigation is being carried out and enquiries are ongoing, including examining CCTV footage.
Detective Inspector Gary Stratton said: “This was a frightening robbery and the victim will require surgery for his injury. He is receiving the full support of officers.
“We are continuing with enquiries into this incident, and I would appeal to those who witnessed the robbery who we haven’t already spoken to please contact us.
“I would also ask people who live in the area or motorists driving by to check your dashcam or CCTV footage for four or five males fleeing from the scene.”
Detective Inspector Stratton added: “Reducing knife crime in Merseyside is a priority all year round.
“Our officers are committed in removing anyone who stores, carries and uses weapons through proactive use of stop and search powers, open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners.”
