Five arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in Anfield

Two men and three teenage boys have been arrested following an incident where a victim was surrounded by five males with knives and a large machete in Anfield.

Just after 5.50pm on Thursday 6 June we received a report that five males with machetes had surrounded a victim on Lower Breck Road.

Police patrols arrived on Lower Breck Road and arrested a 17-year-old boy from Liverpool on suspicion of affray, possession of an offensive weapon, attempted robbery and possession of a knife which he reportedly hid in the area.

Officers also arrested another 17-year-old boy from Liverpool in the area on suspicion of affray, possession of an offensive weapon and possession with intent to supply a Class B drug.

Two 18-year-old boys and a 17-year-old from Liverpool were also arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and affray.

Officers then searched a property in Liverpool and found over £6,000 in cash which was seized at the address.

Detective Inspector Chris Carlin said: “Although we have made five arrests after what was a violent and frightening incident on a victim in Anfield we are continuing to investigate this crime.

“Last month our officers continued their work to tackle knife crime using enforcement, prevention and education through Sceptre, the national knife crime awareness campaign.

“Merseyside Police is committed to preventing serious violence to reduce the devastating impact it has on individuals, families, and the wider community.

“Uniformed officers are regularly deployed across Merseyside to deter offenders and provide reassurance to the local community, with a focus in hotspot areas where crime is most likely to happen. More than 3,000 hours of targeted uniformed foot patrols have helped drive down serious violence in the last year.

”Information from our community is also vital if we are to stop such violent crimes that causes fear in our communities.”
