Detectives have charged a man following a report of a man acting suspiciously in Newton-le-Willows on Monday, 17 June.
It was reported at around 9.10pm on Monday 17 June that a man followed a teenage girl near Home Bargains, off Haydock Street.
The girl was unharmed and is being supported by officers. The incident was subsequently reported to police.
Following enquiries, a man was arrested by officers.
Yasin Hussean, 43, from Newton-le-Willows has been charged with Using threatening / abusive words / behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress.
He has been conditionally bailed to appear at St Helens Magistrates Court on Tuesday 30 July.
Detective Chief Inspector Ben Dyer said: “We understand the concern that such incidents cause in our communities as this investigation continues.
“It is vital that our enquiries are carried out in full and all information comes in directly, as opposed to through comments on social media which can cause speculation. If you have any information, contact us or Crimestoppers and we will take action.”
