A man from Everton has been jailed for 12 years for rape.
Momoh-Jimoh Musari, 35, of Greenside, in Everton, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court today, Friday 21 June, after being found guilty of the offence following a trial held earlier this year.
In October last year, Musari raped a woman aged in her 40s at a house in Everton and following an investigation he was arrested the following month.
Despite denying the offence, Musari was found guilty by a jury. As well as his prison sentence, Musari has also been placed on the Sexual Offender Register for life and handed a 15-year Restraining Order against the victim.
Detective Inspector Adam Smith said: “Musari is clearly a dangerous offender and it’s reassuring to know that he has been removed from our community and is now facing a lengthy time in prison.
“I want to acknowledge the bravery of his victim and for showing such strength and resolve during an extremely traumatic time.
“Despite the evidence against him, Musari chose to deny the offence and tried to claim he had never met the victim. This was simply not true and meant that she had to endure a trial when she had to relive the terrible ordeal.
“Thankfully a jury saw through his lies and I hope that this sentencing will bring some comfort to her.
“I would encourage anyone who has been a victim of a sexual offence or is concerned for the safety of someone they know to come forward and speak to us. Please be assured that we have a team of dedicated staff who will expertly and compassionately deal with your reports and we will do everything we can to bring offenders to justice.
“We take all such reports extremely seriously, and work with partner organisations such as Victim care Support Service and RASA who are there to support victims every step of the way.
