Arrests following assault and Section 60 order in Maghull

Two men have been arrested in connection with an assault in Maghull.

Just after 10pm on Wednesday 28 February we received a report that four males carrying weapons had assaulted a man as he was walking to an address on Burgess Gardens (otherwise known as Rockhouse Gardens). 

The offenders then attempted to gain entry to a house but were unsuccessful and the group made off towards the canal.

The victim, a man in his 30s, sustained a serious injury to his hand and received hospital treatment.

This is believed to be a targeted attack.

Officers arrested two men in connection with the assault after a warrants were executed at addresses in Seaforth yesterday evening, Thursday 29 February.

The two men, aged 33 and 29 years from Seaforth, were arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary with intent to steal, possession of a firearm without a certificate, robbery and Section 18 wounding with intent. They are still in police custody to be questioned.

Officers then carried out a search of the property in Seaforth and found a large quantity of Class B drugs. The 33-year-old man was further arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs, cannabis. 

Following the assault, a Section 60 Order was put in place yesterday in Maghull which gave officers enhanced stop and search powers to minimise serious violence. Extra officers were also in the area to provide a visible presence to reassure communities. 

As a result of the proactive policing operation eight people were stop searched with two people arrested. They were:

A 25-year-old man from Maghull was arrested in the Fox pub on suspicion of Section 47 assault, non-fatal strangulation and controlling/ cohesive behaviour. 
A 33-year-old man from Runcorn was arrested on Truro Avenue on suspicion of possession of Class B drug, cannabis. 

The arrest forms part of the ongoing Operation Miller, which involves disrupting those involved in organised crime on Merseyside in our relentless pursuit to bring them to justice.

Chief Inspector Tracie Trubshaw from Sefton Neighbourhood & Targeted said: “The Section 60 Order was put in place following recent serious violent crimes and reports of weapons being carried in Maghull. 

“We had extra officers on the ground to search any individuals or groups causing such issues, and to provide reassurance to residents living there.

“This enforcement operation shows that Merseyside Police is proactively targeting serious and organised crime in the region to keep our streets safe.

“We are absolutely committed to disrupting any criminal activity which destroys our communities, and we remain dedicated to removing drugs and dangerous weapons from our streets.”
