We are continuing to appeal for information following a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Wirral last night, Monday 4th March.
We were contacted at 7.40pm following reports a male pedestrian had been in collision with a car at the junction of Teehey Lane and Roland Avenue in Bebington.
The pedestrian, an 83-year-old man, suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital. He remains in a critical condition and his next of kin are being supported by family liaison officers.
The driver of the car reportedly left the scene immediately following the collision before returning a short time later.
The car involved in the collision, a black BMW 1 Series, was recovered a short time later in Sandymount Drive in Bebington.
A 23-year-old man from the Tranmere area, who was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision, has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Sergeant Simon Duffy said: “Our thoughts are very much with the injured pedestrian and his family as he remains in hospital.
“We are continuing to appeal for anyone who saw the BMW between Teehey Lane and Sandymount Drive to contact us as soon as possible. We would also like to trace anyone who believes they captured the car on a dashcam or has any other information which could assist our investigation.”
Anyone who has any information which could assist the investigation is asked to DM @MerPolCC, contact SCIU on (0151) 777 5747, or email [email protected] quoting reference number 24000226643.
