Investigation underway following firearms discharge in Toxteth

We are appealing for information following a report a house was shot at in Toxteth on Wednesday evening (28 February).

We received a report just before 7.30am today (Thursday) that a window to a house was damaged on Nickleby Close the previous evening.

On arrival officers found a hole in one window and ceiling, believed to be from a bullet. No injuries were reported.

An investigation has commenced, and a search of the area is being carried out.

Detective Sergeant Leighanne Davies from the Firearm Investigation Team said: “We believe that this incident was a case of mistaken identity, and the occupants are being supported by officers as we look to find who was responsible.

“For someone to endanger lives in such a reckless way is absolutely despicable, and we are keen to hear from anyone who saw unfamiliar people acting suspiciously in in the vicinity of Nickleby Close last night, and the surrounding roads including Windsor Street, between 7and 10.30pm.

“I urge people to check your CCTV, dashcam devices or doorbell footage for anything that can help with our enquiries. Any information you provide, however, insignificant it may seem, could be vital to the investigation.”

Detective Sergeant Davies added: “I would like to reassure residents that we are absolutely committed to preventing any criminal actions which destroys our communities through police activity such as Operation Miller which involves disrupting those involved in organised crime on Merseyside and bringing them to justice.

“There is no room for guns on the streets and we remain dedicated in removing any dangerous weapons from our community.

“We need the help of our communities to make our streets safer by being our eyes and ears and tell us what they know so that we can take positive action. If you know where guns are being stored, I urge you to contact Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111."
