A man has been arrested following the discovery of three firearms in Melling last week.
At around 9.40pm on Tuesday 6 February, officers carried out a search warrant at an industrial unit on Powderworks Lane and found several stolen motorbikes, two viable self-loading pistols and a Skorpion machine pistol with a quantity of 9mm rounds.
Armed response firearms officers and crime scene investigators remained at the unit overnight to safely remove the weapons.
Officers executed a warrant yesterday (Monday 12 February) and a 23-year-old man from Maghull was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Section 1 firearm, possession of ammunition with a certificate, possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (cocaine). He has been conditionally bailed.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Atkinson said: “We have seen the damage that firearms such as these can wreak on our communities, and the fact three have been removed from circulation is a hugely positive step in our efforts to make Merseyside safer.
“Where information from the community and our own enquiries tell us firearms are being stored, we will continue to execute warrants like this, searching for and seizing firearms at homes, industrial premises and open land across Merseyside.
“We are determined to disrupt and bring to justice the organised crime groups who possess firearms and whose reckless disregard for those around them can bring violence and fear into the heart of our communities.”
If you have got any information about the use or storage of weapons in your community please DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111.
