ORIGINAL

Merseyside Police can confirm an investigation is underway following a serious road traffic collision in Norris Green this evening (Sunday, 25 February).

Emergency services were called at 6.27pm to a report a man had been struck by a transit van which was travelling along Utting Avenue East, after coming off the Broadway roundabout.

Paramedics attended and found a man, in his 50s, who is believed to have been out jogging when the collision occurred. The man has suffered serious injuries and has been taken to hospital where his condition is described as critical.

The driver of the silver transit van, that was involved in the collision, failed to stop at the scene and officers are carrying out enquiries to find him and the vehicle.

A number of people who witnessed the incident are assisting police and house-to-house inquires are being carried out in the area. Officers are also appealing to anyone who has CCTV or doorbell footage that captured the incident to come forward, they are particularly interested in talking to any motorists who were in the area who may have dashcam footage of the incident.

The scene has been cordoned off whilst forensic examinations are carried out and motorists are advised to find alternative routes. Road closures are in place at the Broadway roundabout at the junction of Utting Avenue East; Lorenzo Drive; Parthenon Drive with Fairmead Road and Utting Avenue with Lewisham Road.

We would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding whilst this work is carried out.  house-to-house enquiries are ongoing in the area.

Chief Inspector Paul Rannard, said: "At this stage of the investigation the full circumstances of the incident are still being established and I would appeal to anyone who has any information which could help us identify the driver to come forward.

"We also want to locate the van which may have sustained damage as a result of the collision and may have been parked up or even abandoned."

Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam is asked to contact Serious Collision Investigation Unit on (0151) 777 5747, or email [email protected]. Alternatively DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111, quoting reference 0687 of 25 February.
