Two men arrested after weapons and suspected drugs seized in Liverpool

Officers have arrested two men and seized a large quantity of Class A and B drugs in Liverpool.

Matrix officers attended a property in West Derby on Wednesday 20 February to locate and arrest a 41-year-old man wanted for Section 47 assault.

During a search of the address, officers found a large quantity of suspected heroin, crack cocaine and amphetamine – some of which was found hidden in a freezer. A taser, machetes, suspected live ammunition and £5,000 cash were also seized.

The wanted 41-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested for Section 47 assault. He was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (crack cocaine and heroin), possession with intent to supply Class B drugs (amphetamine), possession of an offensive weapon, possession of criminal property, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition without a certificate.

A 50-year-old man from Liverpool was also arrested at the address on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (crack cocaine and heroin), possession with intent to supply Class B drugs (amphetamine), possession of an offensive weapon, possession of criminal property, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition without a certificate.

They have been taken to a police station in Merseyside and remain in custody.

The search was carried out by Matrix officers with the support of Project Medusa. Project Medusa is the Merseyside-led initiative to tackle County Lines drug dealing and criminal exploitation across the country.

Acting Detective Inspector Peter Sloan said: “Officers have not only seized a large quantity of suspected Class A and B drugs, but also arrested two suspects at the property, one of which was wanted for a serious assault.

“Our officers also recovered numerous offensive weapons and suspected live ammunition, which can no longer be used to cause fear and harm in our communities.

“We are relentless in pursuing those involved in drug dealing and serious and organised criminality across Merseyside. I would ask anyone who has information about this kind of activity to come forward, either directly or anonymously to Crimestoppers, so action can be taken.”

Since 2019, Merseyside’s Project Medusa officers – who are recognised nationally as a leading force in tackling county lines – have closed more than 1,100 county lines; arrested more than 2,400 people for offences including drug supply, firearms and money laundering; and identified 1,250 children and vulnerable adults who have been referred to safeguarding services.
