** UPDATE**
Enquiries have now concluded. The cause of death is not suspicious and the matter has been referred to the coroner.
We can confirm emergency services are currently in Rainhill this morning, Monday 19 February, after the body of a man was found.
We received a report at around 2.40am that a 33-year-old man had sustained injuries inside a home on Warrington Road and officers attended the scene.
The man was taken to hospital but sadly he was pronounced dead shortly later. His next of kin have been informed.
The investigation is in its very early stages and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.
A scene is still in place on Warrington Road this morning as part of the ongoing investigation and officers will be carrying out house-to-house and CCTV enquiries.
A post-mortem examination will take place to establish the cause of death.
