We are investigating this evening, Monday 4th March, following a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Wirral.
We were contacted at 7.40pm following reports a male pedestrian had been in collision with a car at the junction of Teehey Lane and Roland Avenue in Bebington.
The pedestrian, a man in his 80s, suffered a serious head injury and has been taken to hospital.
The driver of the car reportedly left the scene immediately following the collision before returning a short time later. The car believed to have been involved in the collision, a dark coloured BMW, was later recovered from the area of Sandymount Drive in Bebington.
A 23 year-old man from the Tranmere area has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
An investigation is underway and CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out in the local area. There are currently road closures to allow investigation work to be carried out.
Matrix Roads Policing Inspector Phil McManus said: “We would like to trace anyone who was travelling along Teehey Lane at around 7.40pm who saw the collision or has any information about the movements of the car immediately before or afterwards.
“We would also ask any taxi or delivery drivers who were in the area of Teehey Lane or Sandymount Drive to check their dashcam to see if they captured anything significant.”
Anyone who has any information which could assist the investigation is asked to DM @MerPolCC, contact SCIU on (0151) 777 5747, or email [email protected] quoting reference number 24000226643.
