A man who sadly died following a road traffic collision on Brimstage Road yesterday (Sunday, 17 March) has now been formally identified and named as 79-year-old Christopher Storey, from Barnston.

Officers are continuing to appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision that happened just before 9.40am when we received a report that a silver/ blue Mercedes collided into a concrete World War 2 Military Pillbox on a bend in the road.

Christopher Storey who was driving the car was treated by paramedics after suffering serious injuries but sadly died at the scene.

A police investigation is ongoing in the area.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, Lead Investigating Officer from the Merseyside Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit said, “My thoughts are with Christopher’s family at this sad time.  They are being supported by specially trained Police Officers and I ask that their privacy is respected at this time.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was on or around Brimstage Road yesterday morning, who saw the silver/ blue Mercedes CLK320 on its journey to Brimstage Road to please get in touch.

“We believe that the collision happened between 9:25am and 9:35am.  Any information you can give us may help us to get answers for his family.

“In addition, local home and business owners are asked to check their CCTV for the route taken by the car, which was Brimstage Road, from the general direction of Gayton, past Heswall railway station to the scene of the crash near to the roundabout at Junction 4 of the M53.

“Similarly, any motorists using the area at the time are asked to check their dashcam.  Front and rear cameras can often record vital evidence, unbeknown to the driver.  Any information however small it may seem could prove vital to our enquiries.”

Please contact the MATRIX Serious Collision Investigation Unit either by calling 0151 777 5747, or emailing [email protected] quoting reference number 24000261766.
