Detectives appeal for information after robbery on Heath Road, Liverpool

Detectives are appealing for information following reports of a robbery where a man was attacked and his electric bike stolen on Heath Road in Liverpool (Saturday 4 May).

At around 7.15pm we received a report that an 18-year-old man was riding his black and grey Trek Powerfly E-bike on Heath Road when he was approached by two males on a black Sur-Ron E-Bike, one who was wearing all black clothing and a balaclava and the other who was light skinned with dark blonde curly hair wearing a blue light jacket.

The victim was threatened with a knife by one of the males who was riding at the front of the bike and assaulted. The male wearing the blue jacket then stole the bike and rode off towards Liverpool South Parkway. The victim suffered injuries to his face and knee.

An investigation is underway and officers have released a picture of the stolen electric mountain bike after carrying out initial CCTV enquiries in the area and are appealing for anyone who saw the attack or who has further CCTV or dashcam footage to contact us.

Detective Inspector Chris Carlin said: “This was a violent and terrifying attack on a young man who was assaulted and left fearing for his own safety after his bike was stolen.

“The incident happened near one of our city’s parks where people who were leaving the area may have seen the attack.

“If you were on Heath Road or saw these two suspects with the bike during Saturday evening or the incident please contact us.

“Similarly, if you have recently seen the bike pictured please contact us immediately so we can find those responsible.

“Our officers will immediately respond to any incidents involving knife crime and are committed in removing anyone who stores, carries and uses weapons through proactive use of stop and search powers, open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners. Our local officers are also providing an increased police presence in the area.

“We will continue to seek out those involved in knife crime, who carry weapons or are involved in gangs, but we also need your support.

”Information from our community is vital if we are to stop such violent crimes that causes fear in our communities and parks.

Those who have bikes can also take advantage of security measures to help prevent theft or robberies.

Bike Register is the UK’s national bike marking and registration scheme, which helps to reduce cycle theft, identify stolen bikes and return recovered bikes to their rightful owners.

Officers are actively checking bikes on Bike Register to see if they have been reported as lost or stolen. This has now resulted in a large number of stolen bikes being returned to their rightful owners.

Bike owners may also want to consider using bike tracking devices and display labels on your bike advising that a tracker is fitted, but be mindful they are not 100% accurate.
