Four arrested and stolen motorbikes seized in Liverpool

We have seized four suspected stolen motorbikes and arrested four people following their seizure in Garston earlier today, Thursday 2 May.

At around 11am, officers searched a property in Garston where they discovered the motorbikes, with one being linked to a reported burglary on Millersdale Road, in Mossley Hill, on Tuesday 2 April.

Two males, aged 20, 18, as well as two females aged 15 and 29, were all arrested on suspicion of handing stolen goods and drugs offences. They remain in custody and will be questioned by detectives.

Elsewhere, yesterday (Wednesday 1 May), officers on patrol in Stanley Park, in Anfield, observed a group of males riding scrambler bikes and electric bikes in an anti-social manner and causing a nuisance to members of the public, including families and children who were trying to enjoy the park.

When approached by officers, the group dispersed and one of the males abandoned his Sur-Ron electric bike on Queens Drive and tried to run away on foot through residential gardens. The bike was seized and the male was later found hiding in a garden and found to be in possession of a large quantity of cash.

A 21-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of acquiring/using/possessing criminal property, criminal damage, driving a motor vehicle dangerously, driving a motor vehicle without a licence, theft of a motor vehicle and using a motor vehicle on a road without insurance. He remains in police custody.

Superintendent Mullally added: “Thanks to the quick-thinking actions of officers who were on patrol in the area, they were able to make an arrest after identifying several males causing a danger to others in Stanley Park.

“We know how frustrating the anti-social use of electric bikes and mopeds can be for our communities. The offenders who ride them anti-socially not only pose a threat to other road users and pedestrians, they risk their own safety by riding too fast, through red lights and often without a helmet.

“We regularly attend reports of incidents to attempt to prevent those on the bikes from posing any further risk to our communities.”

As part of an ongoing investigation into two separate robberies of electric bikes in the Halewood area on Monday 29 April, a 14-year-old boy has been arrested in connection to the incidents.

At around 4.40pm, it was reported that a 13-year-old was approached by a group of youths on the Loopline, who were described as being of a similar age to the victim, who assaulted him and took his electric bike. The victim sustained minor injuries.

Around 20 minutes later, it was further reported that a 16-year-old boy was also assaulted on the Loopline and his electric bike was stolen in similar circumstances by a group of young males.

Following an investigation, a 14-year-old boy from Whiston was arrested on suspicion of robbery. He has been questioned and bailed pending further inquiries.

Earlier this week, a warrant was executed at an address in Huyton on Saturday 27 April where five e-bikes, drugs, cash and a weapon were recovered. A 42-year-old woman and 17-year-old male were arrested and remain under investigation.

On Sunday 28 April, officers also arrested an 18-year-old man from Wavertree on suspicion of robbery  following a report of an e-bike robbery in the area. The quick-thinking and prompt response of officers enabled the identification of the stolen property and subsequent arrest. Following an extensive search of a property, four e-bikes were recovered along with drugs, cash and weapons. A 55-year-old woman was arrested at the property on suspicion of robbery and both remain under investigation.

Superintendent Phil Mullally said: “The use of electric bikes in Merseyside can be linked to drugs supply and organised crime groups as a means to transport illegal substances and weapons around our communities.

“It’s often the case that innocent people who use e-bikes are targeted and fall victim to robberies at the hands of people who are intent to use them to assist their criminal activity.

“If you tell us about electric bikes being used for the purposes of drugs supply in your area, we will take your report extremely seriously. We have increased high visibility police patrols in any areas affected and today we have seen four e-bikes seized and four people arrested for drugs offences. The support of the public is an absolutely vital part of our efforts to stop individuals committing robbery, dealing drugs and committing offences with weapons who’re bringing intimidation, violence and misery into the heart of our communities.

It is information provided by the public that can be the key to helping us target people who’re committing crime and harming communities. I want to know who is committing robbery offences, using violence or the threat of violence to steal property. Do you know who is stealing e-bikes or bikes and importantly, do you know who is handling these stolen items in the community?

"I am convinced the answer lies in the community. People will know who takes in stolen goods such as e-bikes that have often been stolen from people through use of force. This has to stop - handlers of stolen good and the buying of stolen items only encourages more crime and sees more innocent people being targeted for their property.
