We can confirm that a man has been arrested following a serious assault in Liverpool city centre last night, Tuesday 30 April.
At around 9pm, it was reported that a man aged in his 30s has been assaulted on Temple Street and sustained a significant head injury.
Emergency services attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of section 18 assault and he remains in police custody.
One other male reportedly fled the scene on foot in the direction of Victoria Street and inquiries are ongoing to locate him.
It’s believed that the assault is linked to an earlier disturbance involving three males at The Poste House bar, on Cumberland Street.
We are in the very early stages of establishing the circumstances of this incident and several police cordons are currently in place in the city centre, including Temple Street and Cumberland Street.
An investigation is underway and officers remain in the area to carry out CCTV, witness and forensic enquiries.
Detective Inspector Kev O’Rourke said: “This was a vicious assault that has sadly left a man in hospital in a critical condition.
