Man arrested following tactical stop of motorbike in Liverpool

We arrested a man on suspicion of dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle and drug driving following a tactical stop in the Liverpool area on Tuesday 14^th May.

At around 8.40pm officers on patrol in the Tuebrook area saw a motorbike travelling through a red light on West Derby Road/Green Lane.

It was established that the bike was on false number plates and it was followed until it turned onto Ballantyne Road where an unmarked police vehicle carried out a tactical stop.

The rider of the bike made off on foot and was detained on Lisburn Lane. It was later established that the bike had been stolen from an address in Warrington in September 2023.

A 35-year-old man from the Liverpool area was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle and drug driving and driving otherwise in accordance of a licence.

He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Neighbourhood policing Inspector Ray Mavrakakis said: “We will do everything within our powers to tackle the theft and criminal use of bikes and where necessary use approved and safe tactics to stop the bikes and detain suspected criminals.

“Operation Brookdale is our ongoing commitment to eradicating the harm that illegal and anti-social use of off-road bikes cause to the communities in Merseyside.

“Our best chance of removing this threat is always to know where bikes are being stored before they get out on the streets. If you know where bikes are being stored, either in homes, storage units or elsewhere, please come forward and we will act on all information provided.
