Teenager arrested after electric bike robbery in Allerton

We have arrested a 16-year-old male on suspicion of robbery after a teenage boy was threatened and had his bike stolen in Allerton.

At around 5.30pm yesterday, Tuesday 7^th May, the 14-year-old boy was riding his grey Cube electric bike close to the junction of Hurstlyn Road and Heydean Road when he was threatened and ordered to hand over his bike.

Officers were contacted and arrived at the scene. A short time later, at 5.55pm, a 16-year-old male was detained nearby and arrested on suspicion of robbery. He remains in police custody.

Following a search of a nearby property the bike, a knife and a quantity of drugs were recovered.

Superintendent Phil Mullally said: “Our officers continue to patrol open spaces and provide a visible presence in local parks and the Loopline.

“We know there are cases where innocent people who use e-bikes are targeted and fall victim to robberies by people who are intent to use them to assist their criminal activity.

“We would always encourage anyone who has a bike take advantage of security measures including Bike Register which is the UK’s national bike marking and registration scheme which aims to reduce cycle theft, identify stolen bikes and return recovered bikes to their rightful owners. Merseyside Police also holds bike marking events throughout the year.

“You may also want to consider using bike tracking devices and display labels on your bike advising that a tracker is fitted.

“Do you know anyone in your community selling stolen bikes / or E-bikes? If so please think of the impact this stolen second hand market has. By telling us who is handling these stolen bikes and perhaps then selling them on we can take positive action and prevent further people falling victim to this type of criminality”.
