We have arrested two men on suspicion of drugs offences and seized a large quantity of cannabis as part of our ongoing work to tackle serious and organised crime in Liverpool and Knowsley.
Officers from EVOLVE Liverpool-Knowsley were on patrol in plain clothes on April 18 when they spotted a man on an electric bike acting suspiciously at around 1:30pm on Finch Lane in Dovecot.
He ran off on foot as officers attempted to stop him but was detained a short while later where it was discovered he was in possession of a large amount of cannabis and around £1,400 in cash.
The 20-year-old from West Derby was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and possession of criminal property. He taken to a police station in Merseyside for questioning and subsequently released pending further investigation.
A subsequent search of a house on Aspes Road in West Derby led to the further recovery of more than 3kg of cannabis.
As a result, a second man aged 43 from West Derby was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and was taken to a police station in Merseyside for questioning. He has been released pending further investigation.
Chief Inspector Tony Fairhurst, one of the senior officers involved in EVOLVE Liverpool-Knowsley which is Merseyside’s response to the Home Office’s Clear, Hold, Build strategy, said: “Dealing drugs has serious consequences for those involved as well as for the communities affected.
“Drugs go hand in hand with misery and violence and we are determined to catch anyone involved in drugs-related activity and take them off the streets as well as get help for those who may be suffering with addictions.
"We urge anyone with any information to contact us, or Crimestoppers anonymously, so we can take action to make our communities safer.”
Anyone with any information about those involved in drug-related activity is asked to call Merseyside Police on 101, via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or their online reporting form here: Give information 100% anonymously about organised crime in Merseyside | Crimestoppers (crimestoppers-uk.org)
