A man has been fined and banned for two years from entering One Stop stores after committing shoplifting offences.
David White, 43 years, appeared at Sefton Magistrates Court yesterday, Tuesday 19 November, and pleaded guilty to 32 counts of theft from One Shop store in Bootle.
White, of Barnton Close in Bootle, was sentenced to 18 weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months, and issued with a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order. He was also ordered to pay £1,300 to the One Shop store and undergo rehabilitation.
The court heard that White stole from the One Stop Store on Linacre Road, Bootle multiple times in the past year. In one incident he stole air freshers, hairspray, toothpaste, deodorant, candles and laundry tablets. In other incidents he stole coffee, baby milk, cans of deodorant and washing up liquid.
Under a Criminal Behaviour Order, White is now banned from entering any One Stop shop until 19 November 2026.
Detective Inspector Sara Lang said: “White was a prolific offender where he would steal from the store on multiple occasions.
“Business crime from retailers is not a victimless crime, and the ripple effect can be devastating where staff can lose their jobs if the store closes due to constantly losing stock. Theft from stores also impacts shoppers as retailers raise their prices to make up for the loss of goods stolen.
“I hope this sentencing and banning order provides reassurance to businesses that we will take action and do everything we can to investigate reports, and where there is evidence that leads to identification of a suspect we will pursue action through the courts.
“We hope this serves as a clear warning to others that the force will robustly take steps to address prolific offenders, working with businesses and partners. We would ask for the public to report any breaches of this order by White to Merseyside Police.”
