We have introduced enhanced stop and search powers in New Ferry after a report a male was stabbed in the arm this afternoon (Saturday 9 November).
Police were called to Mersey Bank Road just after 12.25pm where it was reported a male had been stabbed to the arm.
Two males wearing all black clothes and balaclavas were reported to have ridden away from the scene on electric bikes onto Napier Road.
The victim, a 15-year-old male, was taken to hospital for treatment to two stab wounds to his arm. His condition is described as stable.
Officers attended the scene and enquiries are underway, with witnesses being spoken to and CCTV opportunities being explored.
A Section 60 Order has been introduced as a result of the incident, giving officers enhanced powers to stop and search individuals and minimise further incidents. It will be in place until 4am on Sunday 10 November.
The Order, under S60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, incorporates the area shown on the map.
The area shown on the map is bounded by the Waterfront at Rock Ferry Beach, along the right hand pavement of Bedford Road East, under Rock Ferry Bypass, the right hand side of Wirral Circular Trail, right hand side of Beford Road, Bedford Avenue, Southwards along the right hand side of Bebington Road (B5418), continuing onto Old Chester Road (B5149), onto the right hand side of Bebington Road eastwards (B5136), southwards along the railway parallel to Greendale Road, eastwards along the right hand side of Bolton Road, Bolton Road East, and continuing along the footpath northwards along the boundary of Port Sunlight River Park to the waterfront.
Detective Inspector Paula Jones said: “Our enquires into this incident are in the very early stages, but based on what we know so far we do believe it was a targeted attack.
“Knife crime has absolutely no place on the streets of Wirral or anywhere in Merseyside, and our work to disrupt the activities of those who use, carry and store weapons goes on every single day of the year.
“Officers will be out tonight across New Ferry and into Rock Ferry to ensure there is a highly visible police presence to reassure communities and swiftly deal with anyone we suspect is intent on committing crime.
“The Section 60 order gives officers on the ground the ability to stop and search people suspected of carrying weapons or planning any criminality.
“We will always seek to take positive action when we have information about people who are storing, carrying or using weapons. So if you want to help us prevent our young people from falling victim to knife crime, give us information and we will do the rest.”
