We have arrested a 17-year-old male after officers tracked a stolen bike to a house in Dingle yesterday (Monday 11 November).
The bike was reported to have been stolen by four males from a bike rack at the junction of Jamaica Street and Brick Street in Liverpool at about 3pm.
The offenders used an angle grinder to saw through the lock securing the bike, a high value black and grey Trek bike. They then made off with the bike, carrying it on a Sur-Ron electric motorbike.
The bike had been fitted with a tracker and when the owner returned, he tracked it to Grafton Street in Dingle.
Officers deployed to the scene, located the bike inside a property on Grafton Street and detained a suspect. During a search they also located cannabis and snap bags associated with dealing of the drug.
At 5.55pm, a 17-year-old, from Allerton, was arrested on suspicion of theft of a pedal cycle, possession with intent to supply a Class B controlled drug (cannabis), and possession of a Class B controlled drug (cannabis). He has been taken into custody to be interviewed.
Detective Inspector Chris Carlin said: “This would have been a concerning incident for the victim and witnesses, so we are pleased to have made a swift arrest and recovered the bike.
“Our enquiries are ongoing so I’d like to appeal to anyone who has yet to come forward to do so, as any information, images or footage could still be extremely useful to this investigation.
“We hope the knowledge that this bike was fitted with a tracker will serve as a strong deterrent to anyone who would consider attempting to steal such a vehicle.
“I also hope it demonstrates very clearly to owners the value of ensuring bikes, particularly high value bikes, are fitted with trackers.”
“We also encourage owners mark and register their bikes at the Bike Register here: https://www.bikeregister.com to provide additional reassurance in the event of theft.”
Anyone with information or footage should contact Merseyside Police social media desk via X @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’.
