Teenager charged with robbery after stabbing of woman in Toxteth

A teenager has been charged with robbery and Section 18 wounding with intent after a woman was stabbed in Toxteth last Wednesday, 13 November.

At around 7.10am, a woman in her 20s was walking on Solway Street West when a man approached her and demanded she gave him her handbag. When she refused, she was stabbed to the chest, causing a punctured lung and the suspect made off on a bike. The victim was taken to hospital and has since been discharged. She will continue to be supported by officers as the investigation progresses.

On Tuesday 19 November, investigators making enquiries in connection with the offence noticed a man riding a bike they suspected to have been involved and detained the rider.

The 17-year-old male from Toxteth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has now been charged with Attempted robbery; Section 18 wounding with intent; and Possession of cannabis. He has been remanded into custody to appear at trial on Thursday 2 January, 2025.

Detective Inspector Chris Carlin said: “We take all reports of robbery and attempted robbery extremely seriously. It is an offence that can shatter confidence and make people feel unsafe in the heart of our communities.

“The use of knives to commit harm and cause fear in Merseyside will never be tolerated. Officers and staff at Merseyside Police work every day of the year to arrest offenders, stop check suspects, seize weapons and conduct warrants where community intelligence suggests they may be stored.

“If you carry or use a knife on our streets,  not only can you expect to be stopped and brought to justice by police, you are increasing the chances of coming to harm at the hands of knife crime yourself. It simply is not worth the risk.”
