Wirral man given three year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO)

A Wirral man has been issued with a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) following allegations of antisocial behaviour.

James Burns, 20, of Bentinck Street, Birkenhead, was given the CBO following a conviction for aggravated vehicle taking. There were also numerous reports of antisocial behaviour involving Burns and groups of youths who gathering close to his home, wearing balaclavas and riding round on motorbikes.

The CBO stipulates that Burns cannot enter an exclusion zone, bordered by Conway Street, Claughton Road, Park Road East and the A5029 save for access to his home address on Bentinck Street via an approved route or associate with named individuals.

He is also prohibited from riding a motorbike/scooter or electric bike in a public place without the owner’s consent and wearing a face covering.

Burns also received a 12-month sentence, suspended for 18 months, rehabilitation, 180 hours unpaid work and was disqualified from driving for 12 months. The CBO will run until 13 November 2027.

Neighbourhood policing Inspector Nicola Hughes said: “Antisocial behaviour and criminality causes misery for members of the public wishing to go about their daily business and business owners simply wanting to make a living.

“The neighbourhood policing team will continue to seek similar orders against those who seek to cause harm to our communities or encourage others to do so.

“Criminal Behaviour Orders are extremely effective and should Burns breach the conditions of this order, he will be arrested, returned to court and may be jailed.

“I would actively encourage any members of the public who witness Burns breaching his CBO or committing offences to report this to Merseyside Police to contact @MerPOlCC or call 101.”
