We are appealing for information after a man was bitten by a dog in Newton-Le-Willows.
At around 6pm on Monday 7 October a man was walking his dog across the field next to St Mary’s RC Junior School when a large black dog ran over towards them and as the man picked up his dog he was bitten on the chin. The dog then ran away.
The man in his 50s sustained a deep laceration which required hospital treatment which is ongoing.
The offending dog was not with its owner and was not wearing a collar. He is described as a large black dog which had long hair and a white chest.
An area searched was conducted to locate the dog and enquiries are ongoing.
Detective Sergeant Dave Glover said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or knows the dog matching the description to please contact us as a matter of urgency.
“The victim sustained a deep laceration to his chin which requires plastic surgery. It is imperative that we find the dog so it cannot harm anyone else.”
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact @MerPolCC on X or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook with reference 24000857217.
