We have arrested a man following a serious assault inside a flat in Toxteth earlier today, Saturday 12 October.
It was reported at 9.45am that a man aged in his 40s had been assaulted around two hours earlier inside a property on Upper Parliament Street in what we believe was a targeted attack.
Emergency services attended and the victim, who had puncture wounds to his head and hands as well as bruising to his face, has been taken to hospital and is currently in a serious but stable condition.
Following inquiries, officers were able to arrest a 52-year-old man from Liverpool on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody and will be questioned by detectives. A knife has also been seized.
Detective Inspector Dan McWhinnie said: “This was a nasty assault that has left a man in hospital with serious injuries.
“Thanks to the quick response from officers, we have been able to arrest a man in connection to the incident and he will be questioned about his possible involvement.
“Although we are in the very early stages of the investigation, we believe this was a targeted attack. CCTV and house-to-house inquiries will be carried out and officers remain at the scene. I hope the community will be reassured that we are taking this incident extremely seriously.
“The use of knives and any weapons is reckless and will not be tolerated, and can have tragic consequences, not only for the victim and their family but also for the offenders involved.
“I would urge people to educate themselves and speak to their children and family members about the dangers of knife crime.
