We arrested a man following reports of suspicious behaviour in Kirkby yesterday (Wednesday 2 October).
It was reported at 9.45pm that a man had followed a woman on Headbolt Lane, causing her to fear for her safety.
Officers attended and a man was detained nearby following a struggle with officers. After being searched, he was found to be in possession of women’s underwear.
A 23-year-old man from Kirkby was arrested on suspicion of behaviour likely to cause alarm or distress, assaulting an emergency worker and resisting arrest.
Detectives Inspector Jimmy Rotherham said: “While we made a swift arrest following this report, we want to appeal to anyone who was in the Headbolt Lane area at around 9-9.45pm and saw any behaviour that may have seemed suspicious.
“You may have thought little of it at the time, but we are keen to hear from anyone who thinks they may have witnessed anything that could assist our investigation.
“Women have the right to walk anywhere in Merseyside without being put in fear in this way, and we encourage anyone who has experienced suspicious behaviour to contact us.
“All reports will be take extremely seriously, and we will do everything in our power to arrest suspects and bring them to justice.”
