Two people have been arrested following a serious assault in Toxteth yesterday, Sunday 13 October.
At around 6.30pm, it was reported that a 14-year-old boy had been walking on Lodge Lane, near the junction with Coltart Street, when he was assaulted by a group of males.
Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital with a serious injury to his head consistent with a bladed weapon being used. He is currently in a serious but stable condition.
Earlier this morning, Monday 14 October, two people were arrested in connection with the incident.
A 34-year-old man from Allerton and a 15-year-old male from Toxteth have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They are still in police custody to be questioned.
A cordon is in place as the investigation continues and CCTV and forensic enquiries are being carried out in the local area.
Detective Inspector Chris Carlin said: “We are continuing to investigate and to establish the circumstances of what has taken place.
“It was a busy time of evening so I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Lodge Lane and seen or heard anything the assault take place to come forward and speak to us.
“I also urge people in the area to check your CCTV footage, or if you were driving along Lodge Lane and have dashcam please review the footage to see if it has captured the incident or leading up to it, no matter how small, as any information may help with the investigation.”
Detective Inspector Carlin added: “While we are making positive progress, we understand the devastating consequences of carrying a weapon and are relentless in our approach to targeting and pursuing criminals.
“The use of weapons is reckless and will not be tolerated, and can have tragic consequences, not only for the victim and their family but also for the offenders involved.
“I would urge people to educate themselves and speak to their children and family members about the dangers of knife crime.
“There is no place for knives in our communities. I would urge anyone with information to get in touch so we can act on community intelligence or call Crimestoppers anonymously.”
