A woman who shouted racist slurs and struck a police officer’s riot shield during disorder in Southport has been given a suspended prison sentence today, Tuesday 22 October.
Ellie Clarke, 21, of Chestnut Street, Southport, was convicted of violent disorder, racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment and assault by beating of an emergency worker (Southport).
On 30 July this year Clarke was seen outside a mosque in Southport during a period when police officers were under sustained attack and missiles were being thrown.
She was seen to approach the police line and shout aggressively using a racist slur and strike an officer’s riot shield.
She was also seen recording other people who were hurling missiles at officers, shouting at other officers and looking towards the crowd gesticulating in an aggressive manner.
She was given a 20 month prison sentence suspended for 18 months when she appeared today at Liverpool Crown Court. She was also ordered to carry out 100 hours unpaid work, 40 days rehabilitation activity and pay court costs.
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Roberts said: “We continue to identify more people who attended the disorder in Merseyside on a daily basis and we will not stop until we’ve put everyone we possibly can before the courts.”
