Appeal following reports of shots fired in Walton

We have arrested a 27-year-old man from Huyton on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. He is in police custody to be questioned.

We are appealing for information following a non-injury shooting in Walton yesterday evening, Saturday 7 September.

At around 11.55pm, officers received a report that windows to an address were heard being smashed and the door was set on fire on Helena Road.

It was further reported that loud bangs were heard outside.

Police attended the house and evidence consistent with shots being fired was found.

No injuries were caused and an investigation is underway.

Two males were seen making off from the area.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire. 

A police cordon is currently in place on Helena Road to allow for a forensic examination of the scene and door to door and CCTV enquiries are being carried out. 

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has any information about what happened is asked to contact police.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Stratton said: “We are in the very early stages of an investigation into this incident and are appealing to anyone who was in the area at around midnight onwards and witnessed the incident to contact police.

“Firing a gun in a residential street is extremely reckless and dangerous. Thankfully nobody was injured but this could have led to more tragic circumstances.

“Please check your CCTV, dashcam devices or doorbell footage and if you see anything or anyone suspicious please let us know. Any information you provide, however, insignificant it may seem, could be vital to our investigation.”

Detective Chief Inspector Stratton added: “Merseyside Police immediately responds to incidents involving guns and is actively working to make the region a safer place to live and work.

“There is no room for guns on the streets and we will do everything within our power to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
