The family of a woman who died following a road traffic collision in Allerton on Saturday 21 September have paid tribute to her.

At around 12.40pm emergency services received reports that a blue Peugeot 206 and a black Ford Focus had been involved in a collision at the junction of Menlove Avenue and Beaconsfield Road.

On arrival they found that an 87-year-old woman, who was the front seat passenger in the Peugeot and now known to be Margaret Fairbrother, had sustained serious injuries. She was taken to hospital by ambulance but sadly died from her injuries.

Her family have today, Tuesday 24 September, paid tribute to Margaret, known to them as Peggy.

They said: “Peggy has sadly passed away aged 87. She was a much loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed deeply by all her family and friends”.

The two male drivers of the vehicles were not seriously injured and are assisting with enquiries. No arrests have been made.

The woman’s family are being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, Lead Investigating Officer from Merseyside Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: "Our thoughts are with Peggy’s family at this tragic time and they are being supported by specialist officers. It is now a priority for us to get answers for them about how the collision occurred, and my team are working to establish key facts.

"This collision happened on a busy route in and out of the city. Early enquiries show there were a number of vehicles in the area at that time, and I believe it may have been witnessed by members of the public or captured on dash cameras. I would appeal directly to anyone who saw anything and who has yet to speak with my team to please get in touch.

"In addition, I would also ask anyone who was in the area at the time who has dashcam fitted to their vehicles to urgently review it. These devices can often capture key evidence in the moments leading up to the collision without the driver of the vehicle being aware. Any help we receive, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could assist our investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC, contact SCIU on (0151) 777 5747, or email [email protected] quoting reference number 24000812799.
