Two teenage males have been arrested following a report of bike robbery in Newsham Park yesterday evening, Tuesday 3 September.
At around 7.30pm a report was received that two males wearing balaclavas approached a 14-year-old boy, threatened him with a knife and to give his electric-assisted pedal bike to them.
The offenders then made off with the bike in the direction of Sheil Road.
Officers attended and following a search of the area arrested a 15-year-old male from Huyton and a 14-year-old male from Kensington on suspicion of robbery. The 14-year-old male with further arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled Class A drug, suspected cocaine. They are still in police custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Darren Taylor said: “Although two males have been arrested our enquiries continue, and we’d still urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that will help with our enquiries to please get in touch.”
Detective Inspector Taylor added: “Our officers are committed in removing anyone who stores, carries and uses weapons through proactive use of stop and search powers, open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners.
“The use of knives and any weapons is reckless and will not be tolerated, and can have devastating consequences, not only for the victim and their family but also for the offenders involved.
“I would urge people to educate themselves and speak to their children and family members about the dangers of knife crime.
“We continue to seek out those involved in knife crime, enticing young and vulnerable people to carry weapons or involved in gangs.”
