We have issued CCTV images of two men who we believe could have information following a stabbing in Southport last night, Friday, 21 February.

Although the images are not of the best quality, we are hoping that the men’s appearance, clothing and the circumstances of this incident will prompt people with information to come forward

At about 7.40pm, officers were called to Lord Street following reports that a 24-year-oldman had been stabbed outside the Glasshouse public house.

The victim sustained a stab wound to his side following an argument with three other males, one of whom as wearing a balaclava.

The injured man was taken to hospital where he is being treated for the injury sustained, which is not serious.

We are now issuing images of two men because we believe they could have information to assist our ongoing investigation.

Detective Inspector Louise Johnson said: "The investigation is progressing and we are now issuing these images because we believe that the men pictured could have information about what happened.

“Although the quality of the images is not ideal, we hope that it may trigger a memory from someone who may have seen these men in the area. Do you recognise them from what they are wearing? Did you see them acting suspiciously either before or after the incident? Any information you have, no matter how small you think it may be, could be vital to our inquiries.

“The use of knives and other weapons on the streets can have catastrophic consequences for all of those involved, and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has information which could assist our inquiries to come forward.

“Lord Street is a busy road and I would appeal to any motorists who were driving along Lord Street at the time of the incident who have dashcam that may have recorded the incident to contact us."

A 24-year-old man from Bootle has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug following the incident.

If you have any information which could help us the investigation contact us via @MerPolCC on X, 'Merseyside Police Contact Centre' on Facebook, 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 942 of 21 February.
