Detectives are releasing CCTV images of nine young people who may be able to assist with enquiries into an assault on Queens Square in Liverpool city centre.
On Saturday, 8 February at around 5.40pm a 26-year-old man was attacked on Queens Square.
The victim, who was visiting Liverpool for the day, was asking for directions when a group of youths began shouting at him and hit him on the head.
The victim ran towards Whitechapel when he tripped and fell. The teenagers caught up with him and continued to hit and kick him, resulting in injuries that required hospital treatment.
During the attack the victim’s wallet was stolen and his bank cards used at a convenience store on Devon Street, Liverpool city centre and multiple times at a takeaway in Walton.
In total the victim had his wallet, cash and credit cards, an identity card, a driver’s licence and a travel card stolen.
Detective Inspector Christopher Carlin said: “This was a shocking, violent attack which left the victim shaken, upset and needing hospital treatment.
“Our officers are dedicated to disrupting the activities of anyone who brings harm and distress to our communities through their criminality.
“Antisocial behaviour and criminality cause misery for members of the public wishing to go about their daily business and business owners simply wanting to make a living.
“I would encourage any members of the public who witnessed this attack or anyone else who recognises anyone in the CCTV images or if you recognise yourself to please come forward and help with our enquiries.”
