Further appeal following serious collision involving electric bike in Speke

We are appealing for information following serious collision in Speke this afternoon, Tuesday 11 February.

At 3.20pm, emergency services were called to Alderwood Avenue to reports of a collision involving an electric bike and a van.

The male rider of the electric bike, a 15-year-old boy, sustained serious injuries and has been taken to hospital. The driver of the van remained at the scene to assist with enquiries.

A road closure is still in place on Alderwood Avenue between the junction of Oldbridge Road an East Dam Wood Road. Please avoid the area while enquiries are carried out at the scene. Thanks for your patience.

Forensic examinations are being carried out and house-to-house inquiries and CCTV examination is ongoing.

Sergeant Roads Policing Jed Ferguson said: “The investigation is in the early stages however I would like to make it clear that police were not involved in a pursuit with the electric bike prior to the incident.

“Officers arrived at the scene after the collision was reported to us.

“However we are aware that after the collision occurred, the electric bike was immediately removed by someone who was at the scene at that time.

“We urge that person who removed the electric bike to please return it to assist the investigation so we can understand what happened and provide the boy’s family with answers.”

Sergeant Ferguson added: “If you saw what happened, or have any information at all that could assist our inquiries then contact us.

“I would urge anyone who was in the area to search their conscience and get in touch with us.

“If you live in the area or were driving past at the time, please review your CCTV/dashcam footage to see if you captured anything, even if it appears small or insignificant, as it could be vital to our investigation.”
