We have arrested a 55-year-old man on suspicion of firearms and Class A drugs offences.
A drugs warrant was executed at a property in Church Road in Walton last night, Thursday 6 February.
During a search of the property officers recovered a manbag hidden inside the extractor hood of a cooker containing a revolver and ammunition, a sock containing ammunition and a carrier bag filled with suspected Class A drugs.
The weapon has been forensically recovered for further examination.
Following further enquiries, a 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a certificate, possession of ammunition without a certificate and possession with intent to supply a controlled drug Class A (heroin).
The man is currently in custody and enquiries remain ongoing.
Detective Sergeant Chris Clark, from the Firearms Investigation Team, said: “We are relentless in our pursuit of those suspected as being involved in serious organised crime in Merseyside and we are determined to rid our streets of dangerous firearms that cause misery for local people in our communities.
“It’s vital that members of the public come forward with information so we can make our communities safer for the decent, law-abiding people who live in areas affected by gun crime.
“Where people are willing to support the police, we will ensure every possible avenue is progressed to protect them.
“And if you don’t feel comfortable coming directly to the police call the independent, anonymous, Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111, we need to know who is involved in gun crime and where those guns are being stored.”
