A Southport man has been jailed for eight years for multiple offences against a woman over a ninth month period.

Nathaniel Lockie, 36, of Station Road, in Southport, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today, Friday 14 February, after he was found guilty of the following offences:

  • Sexual assault
  • Assault
  • Threats to disclose private sexual images
  • Stalking causing fear of violence
  • Breach of restraining order

Lockie was arrested as part of an investigation into his actions towards a woman in 2023 and 2024.

Lockie threatened the victim, would call her up to 200 times a day and assaulted her during an incident in June last year.

In a Victim Personal Statement read in court, the woman said: “I have nightmares about everything. These can be extremely intense and I wake up crying, gasping for breath.

“I often get flashbacks and several things will trigger me. I’m on medication because I find it difficult to sleep. The whole ordeal has been mentally torturing and I still continue to the effects.”

Detective Constable Lara Smith, who is the officer in charge of this case, said: “The appalling actions of Lockie over a sustained period of time would have had a huge detrimental impact on the victim.

“Thankfully she found the courage to report his offences, but despite the overwhelming evidence he still chose to deny the allegations and forced his victim to go through the ordeal of a trial.

“I’m pleased that a jury found him guilty and he will now spend time in prison to reflect on the long-lasting impact that his actions have caused this woman.

“It’s clear from her Victim Personal Statement that the horrendous experience still affects her to this day and I hope she can now move past this knowing he is behind bars.”

If you have any non-urgent information on domestic abuse – if you are a victim or believe someone you know is a victim - you can contact us via direct message @MerPolCC on Twitter, ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook or contact @CrimestoppersUK, anonymously on 0800 555 111.

If you are in immediate danger, always call 999. If you ring 999 and are not in a safe position to speak to us then cough, or tap, the phone and press 55, when prompted. This will alert the operator that you need assistance and we will provide support.

You can also request information under Clare’s Law, the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme. This scheme enables the police to release information about any previous history of violence or abuse a person might have.
