We can confirm that a woman has died following a road traffic collision in Huyton this morning, Thursday 16 January.
At around 4.40am, emergency services were called to the junction of Liverpool Road and Hillside Road to reports of a collision involving a Mazda and a female pedestrian. She sadly died at the scene and her family is being supported by specialist officers as enquiries continue.
We can confirm that the woman is Catherine Dodd, who was 59 and from the Huyton area.
The driver of the car, a 35-year-old man from Huyton, was arrested on suspicion of Causing death by careless/inconsiderate driving. He has been taken to a police station for questioning.
A road closure remains in place in both directions on Liverpool Road from junction 2 of the M57 to Blue Bell Lane. Please avoid the area and thank you for your patience.
A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to previous police contact with the victim.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, Lead Investigating Officer from our Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts and condolences are with victim’s family at this tragic time, and we will do all we can to establish the circumstances.
“For this reason, we are very keen to speak to anyone who was passing by or close to the junction of Liverpool Road and Hillside Road at around 4.40am. You may have captured valuable evidence via your dashcam or other devices and be unaware, so please check and come forward at the earliest opportunity.
“Road closures will remain in place this afternoon so please avoid the area and updates will be issued when the road is reopened.”
