We have issued CCTV images of a male we would like to trace following a serious assault in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 26 January.
We were contacted at just before 2.50am following reports a 20 year-old man had been assaulted by another male on Fleet Street and suffered a slash wound to his face which required hospital treatment. He has since been released from hospital.
The male is believed to have made off toward Back Colquitt Street.
An investigation is underway and CCTV and witness enquiries are in the process of being carried out.
We have issued CCTV images of a male we would like to speak to as detectives believe he could have information which is vital to the investigation.
Detective Inspector Ruth Tickle said: “This was a shocking assault which has left a young male with a significant injury to his face.
“At this stage we believe the injured man may have tried to intervene in a disturbance when he was assaulted.
“We are keen to speak to the male pictured as we believe he could assist with our enquiries.
“I would ask anyone with information about the incident or believes they can identify the male to contact us as a matter of urgency.
"We are determined to find the person responsible and we will always take positive action whenever we receive information on the possession and use of knives and other weapons in the communities of Merseyside.
“Knife crime has no place on the streets of Merseyside and we will continue to do everything in our powers to combat it, bring offenders to justice and remove weapons from our streets, so please come forward and tell us what you know.”
Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or call 101. Information can also be passed on anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 25000068260.
