Man charged with burglary after St Helens home broken into

We can confirm a man has been charged after a burglary in St Helens on Saturday 1 February.

It was reported that someone broke into the home of a woman aged in her 70s at around 1am while she was inside and stole items including cash and a handbag.

Thankfully she wasn’t injured, but she was left distressed by the incident.

Following inquiries, Daniel Carmody, aged 30, of no fixed abode, has been charged with possessing a controlled Class A drug (cocaine), fraud and burglary. He is due to appear at Wirral Magistrates’ Court today, Monday 3 February.

Detective Inspector Steve Byrom said: “Being a victim of burglary can have a massive impact on individuals affected as they have had their home invaded which is an awful experience to go through.

“We are determined to keep reducing offences and the harm this causes across Merseyside, and we will act on information we receive.

“We encourage people to come forward if you know anything about suspected burglary and the sale of stolen goods where you are. We’ll act on all information provided.

“We will continue to work proactively with communities and our partners to keep this progress going.”
