UPDATE: This incident has now been stood down and the road closure lifted.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) has attended the scene and examined the package, which is safe.
We would like to thank residents, motorists and workers for their patience and understanding whilst this incident was resolved.
Original Statement (Published earlier today)
Emergency services are currently attending to an incident on Union Street, in Liverpool city centre.
A report was received at around 12.50pm today, Thursday 2 January, after a suspicious package was received at a building on Union Street.
As a precaution, Union Street has been closed and a building has been evacuated while emergency services deal with the incident. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area.
