We are appealing for information following a reported robbery of a convenience store in Tuebrook yesterday, Sunday 2 March.
It was reported at around 2.25pm three youths, two males and a female, entered a shop on Craigs Road and after being challenged two of them waited outside.
It was further reported the male inside the shop took a bag of chocolates and attempted to walk out of the shop without paying. The assistant tried to retrieve the sweets and as she did, the male pushed and struck her in the face.
He then grabbed more sweets from the shelf, and they made off.
The victim was left distressed by the incident.
Officers attended and enquiries are being carried out including examining CCTV footage.
Detective Inspector Chris Carlin said: “This was a very distressing incident where a shop assistant was assaulted, which happened while they were trying to make an honest living.
"We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Craigs Road at around that time and saw two males and a female acting suspicious to please contact us.
"I also urge motorists and residents in the area to please check you CCTV or dashcam footage at around that time for anything that might help with the investigation. The smallest detail could be the key to finding the person responsible and removing him from the streets."
Anyone with information is asked to contact @MerPolCC, 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with reference 25000178322.
