Officers have seized around 150 cannabis plants following an incident in Liscard earlier this week.
At 10.30pm on Tuesday 4 March, officers attended a premises on Wallasey Road to reports of suspicious behaviour. Entry was gained and 149 cannabis plants were seized, in addition to equipment. Evidence was also found of electricity having been breached.
The property has now been made safe and all items recovered for further enquiries to be made. Enquiries are ongoing to locate the occupants.
Matt Brown, who heads up our specialist Cannabis Dismantling Team (CDT), said: “This is an excellent result and once again highlights the benefits of people reporting suspicious behaviour where they live, work or visit. Cannabis farms are a magnet for fire, flood and violent crime, and each one removed makes our communities safer.
“In this case, the electricity had been tampered with, which creates massive risks to anyone living or working nearby. If you suspect such activities being carried out where you are, please come forward and we will take action.”
A video in which Matt explains how you can spot signs of cannabis being grown near where you live can be found here - How to spot a cannabis farm
Some of the signs that cannabis is being grown are:
- Strange smells and sounds
- Frequent and varied visitors to a property, often at unusual times
- Gardening equipment being taken into a property, such as plant pots, fertiliser, fans and industrial lighting
- Windows are sealed and covered or the curtains are permanently closed
- Heat from an adjoining property
- Birds gathering on a roof in cold weather
Individually these activities may seem commonplace, however, together may indicate something more suspicious. Anyone with information on suspected drug production or criminal activity in their community can contact @MerPolCC, call 101 or come forward anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Always call 999 if a crime is in progress.
