We have arrested five males on suspicion of conspiracy to commit GBH following incidents in Toxteth earlier this week.
We were contacted at 9.50pm on Monday 3 March following reports of a fight in the Beaconsfield Street area. When patrols arrived a group of males made off on foot.
A 14-year-old male was detained nearby and found to have suffered a puncture wound to his back which required hospital treatment. A machete blade was also recovered.
The following evening, Tuesday 4 March, we were contacted following reports two men had been assaulted in Granby Street at around 9pm.
A 24-year-old man suffered a stab wound to the chest and remains in hospital in a stable condition. A second man, aged 48, suffered a laceration to his face. He has been released from hospital.
It is believed both incidents are linked.
Following enquiries, we have arrested five males.
A 14-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit GBH and has been conditionally bailed.
A 48-year-old man, two 15-year-old males and a 17-year-old were also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit GBH and remain in custody.
A s60 order, which gives officers enhanced powers to stop and search individuals and minimise further incidents, was introduced in the Toxteth area on Tuesday evening and extended further on Wednesday, 5 March into Thursday.
As a result nine people and one vehicle were stop-searched.
An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
A 26 year-old man was dealt with by way of community resolution for possession of a controlled drug Class B.
A silver lock knife and a quantity of cannabis was seized.
A mobile police station is currently on Mulgrave Street in Toxteth and anyone with any concerns is urged to speak to officers.
Detective Inspector Steve Street said: “The investigations into both incidents remain ongoing and we have made significant progress and carried out a number of arrests.
“Tackling knife crime remains a priority for Merseyside Police and we are committed to finding the people who use knives and bringing them to justice.
“We understand how worrying incidents such as this can be but I want people to feel reassured that we are taking action.
“Our plea to people living or visiting the area is to come forward with any information you have.
“I would also ask parents and guardians to speak to young people about the danger of carrying knives. We know that those who carry weapons are more likely to become a victim themselves. If you know of someone who is carrying a weapon then please tell us.”
Anyone with information about either incident or has information about who is carrying weapons or where they are being stored are asked to DM @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
